What is Rotary and what does the organization do?
Rotary International is a global network of more than 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who come together to take action and create lasting change in their communities and around the world. Founded in 1905, Rotary connects people from diverse professions and backgrounds who share a commitment to service, ethical leadership, and international understanding.
Through local Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and regions, members work together to address real-world challenges—whether that means organizing local service projects, supporting youth leadership programs, improving education and healthcare, or responding to disasters.
The Mission of Rotary
Rotary’s mission is simple but powerful:
“We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.”
Rotary members believe that when people of different backgrounds come together with a shared commitment to service, they can create meaningful and lasting impact.
Service Above Self
At the heart of Rotary is its guiding motto: “Service Above Self.” This philosophy encourages members to use their skills, leadership, and resources to improve lives and strengthen communities both locally and globally.
Whether through community projects, international partnerships, or youth programs such as Rotary Youth Exchange and Interact, Rotary continues to inspire people to serve and lead with purpose.
