- Earth Day Started in 1970: The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, after Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin announced the concept in the autumn of 1969, following the massive Santa Barbara oil spill.
- Earth Day is a Global Event: It’s now a global event, with over 190 countries participating and mobilizing a billion people each year.
